A recent proposition has been put forth to establish a “gateway” system, facilitating Ethereum transactions to be encapsulated and relayed to Flow.

Pending community consent, the Flow (FLOW) ecosystem may soon accommodate Ethereum-centric decentralized applications (dapps).

This proposal emerged from Dieter Shirley, the co-founder of Dapper Labs and the Lead Architect at Flow. He clarified that “no code changes” would be necessary to attain complete Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility with Flow.

Through this envisioned “gateway” mechanism, developers could encase external dealings within Cadence, which is Flow blockchain’s dedicated smart contract programming language.

Should Flow greenlight its framework for Ethereum-compatible virtual machines, this could pave the way for blockchain developers to transition not only ERC-20 tokens but also non-fungible tokens (NFTs) based on the ERC-721 protocol across both platforms.

However, there are intricate components awaiting resolution, notably the alignment of EVM gas fees within Cadence.

As of this report, the proposal has garnered a modest 12 likes, without any ensuing discussions or defined timeframes attached.

Established by Dapper Labs and introduced in 2020, Flow operates as an open layer-1 blockchain harnessing a proof-of-stake consensus algorithm.

This endeavor accumulated $18 million via CoinList, pooling from both the community sale and auction, drawing nearly 13,000 contributors.
